Fundraising

Every competitive and Teen Rec family provides a $500 undated fundraising cheque at the beginning of the year that will be shredded at the end of the season once the minimum fundraising participation requirements are completed. Two of our main fundraiser are:

Swim-a-thon

The Swim-a-thon takes place in mid October every year and is an important fundraising activity of Nova Synchro. Athletes swim continuously for two hours to see how many laps they can complete (with re-hydration and bathroom breaks as needed). They are asked to obtain pledges prior to the event, either as a lump sum or per lap. It is a fun club event with music, snacks, and prizes! The Swim-a-thon is an integral part of the club's training program and all competitive swimmers are expected to participate.

Our 2022 Swim-a-thon is planned for Saturday, December 9, 2023 from 9:00am - 12:00pm at the U of A West Pool.

Casino

Nova participates in a casino every two years. Nova Synchro is dependent on this casino financially, and casino revenues help keep the annual fee accessible to families. Each swimmer registered in the previous and current year must supply a worker 18 years or older to volunteer at this fundraiser. Every competitive and Teen Rec family provides a $500 undated casino cheque at the beginning of the year that will be shredded at the end of the season once the casino commitments are completed.

Volunteer Opportunities

Parents are strongly encouraged to become involved with Nova Artistic Swimming to maintain a supportive organization for all swimmers. Nova Artistic Swimming is successful thanks to the effort and hours generously committed by many volunteers. There are a variety of jobs that require different levels of commitment, but everyone is expected to donate time. Parents can volunteer to serve on the Executive, filling such positions as Treasurer, Wardrobe Coordinator, or Meet Manager. Opportunities for volunteering also arise at events during the year, from working a casino to timing swimmers at the Swim-a-thon, working at local meets hosted by Nova or chaperoning out-of-town meets.

The Volunteer Participation Points Chart in the Member's Area of this website provides a list of possible ways you can get volunteer points and contribute to your swimmer's experience. Every competitive and Teen Rec family is asked to complete 5 volunteer points and provide an undated $500 volunteer cheque at the beginning of the season which will be shredded at the end of the season once the hours have been completed. A sign-up sheet to join a committee (3 points) will be available on registration day. The committees are: Fundraising, Board Members, Special Events, Travel and Administrative.
